We're a small city with big attitude, and the rest of the nation apparently knows it!  According to rating websites like Trip Advisor and Yelp, as well as social media, the "Lake City" ranks number 2 for small destinations in the nation among the U.S. Tourism Quality Index, according to a media release from SWLA Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The information was collected and measured according to culture, entertainment, sightseeing, sports, adventure, culinary and lodging. Yep, we have all of that! The release also stated "The rankings are based on the analysis of the number of products or experiences marked as “very good” or “excellent” by consumers." Feels good to be appreciated, doesn't it?

The "Top 10" small destinations are listed below.

  1. Tallahassee, Fla.
  2. Lake Charles, La.
  3. Bend, Ore.
  4. Dothan, Ala.
  5. Augusta, Ga.
  6. Greenville, S.C.
  7. Greensboro, N.C.
  8. Mesa, Ariz.
  9. Pensacola, Fla.
  10. Hot Springs, Ark.

“We could not be prouder of this ranking. It is evident that the hospitality community in Southwest Louisiana is working hard to deliver an exceptional visitor experience. The staff at the bureau is grateful for the many partnerships that we have across all sectors in the hospitality community. With everyone working together, great things can be accomplished from hosting successful events, conferences, media tours or the individual leisure traveler,” said Shelley Johnson, executive director of the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB (LC/SWLA CVB).
