I have lived here in Lake Charles for a little over 15 years now, and like the old saying goes, when it rains, it pours. This is not to be taken lightly here in Lake Charles, and lately in Louisiana in general. A few days ago, I went to the gym to get my workout on and try to sweat it out a little.

When I got ready to leave the gym after being there for a couple of hours, I couldn't leave. This is highly disturbing, as I caught myself just posting pics on Facebook and doing Insta chat videos and things like that. In other words, I was ready to leave, but was unable to because the gym that I was at was very close to being underwater.

Also, a few weeks ago, after just raining for only about 20 minutes, I was going down Prien Lake road to pick up my son and this is what I ran across just a few minutes from getting there.

Now while I don't have a solution, it is most definitely a problem. There are too many parts in Lake Charles where if they get flooded, homes are damaged, cars are damaged, and folks can't move around. This causes folks to be late for work or not be able to make it at all. It causes an influx on insurance costs on residents of the city, and homes are virtually flooded out within minutes. Now there are some key areas including 5th avenue, Enterprise Blvd and, honestly, North Lake Charles in general.

The thing that I have heard over and over (and there is obviously truth to it), is that the drainage system here sucks. The major issue with that is when it rains here in Lake Charles, it goes on consistently and sometimes for days. Who do we need to reach out to get this taken care of? Lake Charles is a beautiful place. I have been here for over 15 years and raised my son here. But this is an issue that needs to be resolved, so that the residents will love living here and won't have to deal with losses due to bad weather in the area.
