Lauryn Hill Sentenced To Jail
Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three month in prison for failure to pay her taxes.
Over the last year or so Lauryn Hill has had some massive issues with the IRS for failing to pay taxes on almost $2 million dollars in earnings. So far she has paid $970,000 towards her debt. During her initial court date last month she was given an extension to allow her to come up with the balance she owes, but it looks like she couldn't get the money together.
Yesterday May 6th was "D" day and because Lauren didn't have her money together, the judge sentenced the superstar and mother of six three months.
While in a Newark, N.J., courtroom, Lauren told the judge that her tax debt was like slavery adding, “I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that. I was put into a system I didn’t know the nature of. … I’m a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. I sold 50 million units … now I’m up here paying a tax debt. “If that’s not likened to slavery, I don’t know what is.”
Needless to say, the judge wasn't moved by Laurens speech and sentenced the former Fugees superstar. Her three months in prison is in addition to the three months of home confinement that she’s already been given, plus nine months of supervised released. Lauren has until July 8 to report to prison.
