The trial for those accused for the murder of rapper Melvin “Lil Phat” Vernell III is finally underway.  Those accused of playing a role in the 19-year olds death include a former college basketball star Decensae White, Bang Get Money Blood gang leader Gary “Eldorado Red” Bradford and hitmen for hire Maurice Dewayne Conner and Deandre Washington.

Authorities say the four defendants, conspired to kill Phat over stolen marijuana. Reportedly, Bradford and White paid Conner and Washington $10,000 to murder the rapper.

The rappers girlfriend/finance’, 24-year old Alnese Frazier took to the stand to testify about their relationship and what transpired.  She told the jury she had just given birth to the couple’s second child, when Phat was gunned down in the hospital parking garage shortly after visiting them in 2012.

Allhiphop reports only four of the five men connected to the murder are currently on trial.  A fifth man, ex-Russian mobster-turned-FBI informant Mani Chulpayev, is accused of aiding in the murder plot and will be tried separately.

When asked about his thoughts on the NBA/Toronto Raptors drama over Drake’s alleged “public recruiting” of Kevin Durant.  Wayne said, “he has to know that he’s the team’s ambassador. He has to be more careful.”
