Lil Wayne Taking Hiatus From Rap to Skateboard

Lil Wayne is getting serious about skateboarding. During an interview with DJ Drama, the Young Money honcho said that he’s moving away from rap and is focusing more on flipping ollies. Weezy feels that people had enough of him in the rap game so now he’s trying a new sport.

“I picked up the skateboard and I thought it would be a hobby, but it’s a lifestyle. You have to be fully committed,” he tells DJ Drama (via AceShowbiz). “In order to be fully committed, you have to live that lifestyle. What these young kids say right now, ‘You have to be about that life.’ I guess I’m about that life.”

“It’s kinda of putting rap on the back burner, that’s all. Rap is a taking backseat to skating,” Wayne adds. “That’s alright. But I kind of feel I deserve that. … I think fans deserve some peace from me, so I’ll be on my skateboard in the meantime.”

But don’t worry, Lil Wayne is not ditching rap completely. The ‘My Homies Still’ rapper is planning to release his new mixtape ‘Dedication 4′ on Aug 15. The collection will include him freestyling over beats like Chief Keef’s ‘I Don’t Like’ and Ca$h Out’s get-money anthem ‘Ca$hin’ Out.’

On the difference between recording an album and a mixtape Wayne says, “When I’m mentally doing the album and doing those songs, I make sure I stay on subject [and] that I’m saying things in the song [so] that you can be singing the song and repeat those things and they still make a lot of sense to actually say.”

“When I’m making a mixtape, there’s not half of that thought,” he continues. “I just say what comes to my mind, I make it make sense, and that’s how it goes… ‘Mixtape Weezy’ means freelancing my thoughts everywhere and just putting them together like a puzzle.”
