Lil Wayne Writes A Letter To The Emmett Till Family — Tha Wire [VIDEO]

The family of the late Emmett Till wanted an apology from Lil Wayne for the disrespectful lyrics the rapper laid down on the remix of "Karate Chop".  This week, they got it.....or did they?

As previously reported, there’s been a lot a static over the bad choice of words on Lil Wayne's part in the Future remix to “Karate Chop”.  Island Def Jam has since pulled the song out of respect and since then, Emmett Till’s family has denounced Weezy’s lyrics and found them to be extremely offensive to say the least.  A family rep released a statement about their position on the rap lyrics about the slain teenager and made it clear that they wanted an apology.  Recently their wish has been granted.

This week Lil Wayne wrote a letter to the family as a formal apology for the lyrics in hopes of squashing all the drama.  His wrote as follows:

Dear Till Family:

As a recording artist, I have always been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.

It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.

Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalog.

I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.

Finally, Atlanta natives Chris Kelly and Chris Smith were discovered in 1990 by 18-year-old Jermaine Dupri at an Atlanta shopping mall.  Kriss Kross was born and as they say the rest is history.  They were a super cute due that had everybody dressing backwards…well at least for a little while.  Their debut album Totally Krossed Out dropped in 1992 and sold over four million copies in the U.S. alone.  It also included the hit single "Jump", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks.

Back in the day these youngsters were huge.  They fell out of music scene over the last decade, but reappeared to perform their mega hit “Jump” at the 20^th So So Def anniversary this past February.

All seemed well and there was even talk of them making a comeback.  However, Chris Kelly best known as Daddy Mac, has died and his sudden death has shocked the music world and fans alike.  Fox 5 in Atlanta broke the story after the rapper was found unconscious at his home yesterday. The exact cause of death has not been revealed, but an autopsy has been ordered.
