According to a police report, 63-year-old Thomas Blige was stabbed in the neck by a former girlfriend after he confronted the woman for letting air out of his tires.  Blige's roommate, Michael Thomas told authorities that Blige "heard some hissing sounds that he heard from outside, where the air was being let out of his tires.  He came back in and yelled for me."  Thomas, explained that when he came to Bliges aid, he found him on the kitchen floor, "bleeding profusely" from stab wounds to his throat, side and arm.

Thomas said, "I had to grab towels and cover the wounds the best I could until the rescue came."

Detective Sgt. Jim Martens reported, 50-year-old Cheryl Ann White, stabbed Mr. Blige and was found at her apartment nearby wearing blood-spattered clothing.  Detective Martens stated an argument between the two began after Thomas Blige reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend deflating the tires on his SUV.

Ms. White was taken into custody, treated for a small cut, questioned by detectives and arrested.  She is expected to be arraigned sometime today in Calhoun County District Court.  She has been charged with attempted murder.

The knife allegedly used in the stabbing was located inside Thomas Blige’s apartment, according to police.  Mr. Blige underwent surgery for his injuries at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.  An update on Mr. Bliges condition at last word, is that he was upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Detective Martens also revealed that this isn’t the first time police have been called out to deal with a disturbance between Thomas Blige and Cheryl Ann White.  Shockingly enough Martens said there has been seven domestic violence incidents involving the two since August 2013.

During a prior incident, Ms. White hit Thomas Blige with a glass candlestick.  As a result, she was charged for aggravated domestic violence in October 2013.  She was placed on six months probation after entering a no-contest plea to the charge on Jan. 10 and ordered to have “non-assaultive” contact with him.  After that incident, Mr. Blige filed papers to gain an order of protection.

A statement from Mary J. Blige has not been released yet.  Unfortunately the songstress and her father have had a rocky relationship since she was a child.  Mr. Blige, apparently abandoned Mary and her sister LaTonya after he divorced their mother, Cora Blige in 1980.
