It’s that time of the year again for floats, music, memories and football. On behalf of the University, we cordially invite you to participate in the 2011 Homecoming Parade. This year’s parade will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at 7 p.m.

Cost

To help defray the cost of the parade for our student body, we ask that each community unit entry pay a $50.00 fee. Please make checks payable to the McNeese Homecoming Parade. If you wish to have your business decorated, some student organizations will also volunteer to paint the town “Blue and Gold,” referring to decorating interested businesses’ windows the week of Homecoming. Please contact the Student Union Office at 337-475-5609.

There is no entry fee for University organizations to participate in the event.

To accomplish this, Student Services must deter some of the cost and workload; therefore, we are requiring that each participating student organization contribute one person to help with pre-parade activities from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Once the volunteer’s float is leaving the line-up, he/she will be allowed to join the organization on the float.

Deadlines:

Community Unit: Before Noon, Friday October 14, 2011

McNeese Student Organization: Before Noon, Tuesday October 18, 2011

Theme

The theme for this year’s homecoming parade is “The Cowboy Brand”. To help support this theme we suggest using creative designs in decorating your float. Your float could feature a play-on-words with cattle brands or highlight the history of different logos or brands used by McNeese over the years. The mascot for this year’s homecoming opponent, Sam Houston State, is the Bearkats and their colors are orange and white.

Judging

For the judging portion of the parade, McNeese State University student organizations will compete for first, second, and third places, while community organizations will compete for plaques. Winners of each division will be announced at the pep rally and press releases will follow the week after that.

Parade Route

Marching bands will be folded in with the floats at University Methodist Church. The parade will primarily travel south on Ryan Street and travel to McNeese Street. Turn east on McNeese Street and travel back to the Cowboy Stadium to disembark.
