Meek Mill has made no secret of his struggle with probation, and now, it appears that his battle has helped inspire the Pennsylvania Senate to make strides to reform their probation system. One of those strides is the newly passed Senate Bill 14.

According to a report from KYW Newsradio, the Pennsylvania Senate just introduced a bill that was inspired by Meek's high-publicized battle with probation, one that seemingly climaxed when Meek was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violations of a probation he was sentenced to nearly 10 years ago. The bill was passed on Tuesday (Jan. 29).

The Senate Bill 14 would help those who are currently in Meek's shoes by capping the length of probation at five years for felonies and three for misdemeanors. The bill, which currently has bipartisan support, would also allow for probation sentences to be shortened if the person on said probation shows good behavior. According to the local Pennsylvania outlet, the bill will also "use the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing guidelines to curb judicial discretion when it comes to dealing with technical violations."

For his part Meek, who quote-tweeted a video of Senator Sharif Street's speech about the bill, definitely appeared pleased with this development.

"This is great news!" Meek began in the tweet. "I’ve been on probation 11 years and sent to prison 3 times without committing crime. This will directly effect people growing up in bad environments going in and out of prison for minor mistakes "not crime.'"

The introduction of the Senate Bill 14 comes just a week after Meek Mill and Jay-Z launched their criminal justice reform organization. With CNN's Van Jones tapped as CEO, their Reform Alliance also includes co-founders like New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin, Nets co-owner Clara Wu Tsai, Third Point LLC founder Daniel S. Loeb, Galaxy Digital founder Michael E. Novogratz and Vista Equity Partners founder Robert F. Smith. Collectively, the owners have pledged about $50 million to launch the organization.
