In the past few years, there have been too many children killed by the hands of police officers. Tamir Rice was only 12 years old when his life was taken away by an officer in Ohio. Mike Brown was 18 years old when he was shot and killed by officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo., on Aug. 9, 2014.

If Brown was alive today (May 20) he would be celebrating 21st birthday. Sadly, we are forced to remember him of what could have been. Twitter (or “Stay Woke Twitter”) hasn’t forgotten about Mike Brown.

People have went on their timelines to honor Brown and say Happy Birthday to him. Brown has become the symbol for Black Lives Matter and the ongoing social issue of police violence against unarmed black men and women.

Filmmaker Jason Pollock, who directed the Mike Brown documentary, wrote on his Twitter account: "A prayer to #MikeBrown on his 21st bday. You are a true king, and you've given the world so much. We'll never stop fighting for you."

Another person tweeted, "To one of the young Kings who woke up a generation, Happy 21st Birthday. We love you; we honor you."

Happy 21st Birthday to Mike Brown. Let's continue the fight against injustice and protect our young people. Hands up! Don't shoot!
