As a Lake Charles family was sleeping on the morning of July 27th, they were awaken by gunshots being fired at their home.

According to a press release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, at approximately 4:30 a.m., July 27th, deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a home on E. Prien Lake Road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered while the homeowner and his family were sleeping, they heard numerous gun shots being fired at their home. Deputies also discovered a witness was able to get a detailed description, including the license plate, of a black truck that was seen fleeing the area when the shots were fired. — CPSO Spokeswomen Kim Myers

The license plate number was run through NCIC, and the black truck seen fleeing the scene of the shooting was found to be owned by 23-year-old, Donald J. Ellis, Jr. of 1349 John Belle Road, in Moss Bluff. Ellis and the black truck were found at his home by CPSO deputies, according to the press release.

Ellis has been arrested and charged, and now sits in the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Ellis is charged with assault by drive by shooting; aggravated criminal damage to property; and a judge has set his bond at $550,000.
