I didn't know Jim Groth, 52, of Moss Bluff, but I sure wish I had now that I've read his self-penned obituary.

I am very sorry to hear he's no longer with us, and I send my sincerest condolences to his family. I can only imagine what they're going through, but it's my hope that by sharing the story Mr. Groth has left behind, we can bring a little happiness to their hearts.  It sure seems like he was the kind of guy who liked bringing some happiness of his own. You should go read the whole thing, but here are some of the highlights:

James "Jim" Groth made his last wildly inappropriate and probably sarcastic comment on July 28th (2015)...

...Additionally he is survived by his much older sister Lisa Dickman of whythehelldoyoulivethere Rhode Island and younger Brother John Groth of West Palm Beach Fla. Jim's demise will now allow them to emerge from his shadow. A variety of nieces and nephews with mediocre upbringing would complete the list of those left to embellish his memory...

...His 30 plus years as a volunteer soccer coach from the kindergarten to High school level afforded hundreds of Children and parents exposure to Jim's unique personality. Half a dozen or so of these folks might speak of him fondly if pressed...

...His regrets were few but include eating a rotisserie hot dog from a convenience store in the summer of 2002, not training his faithful dog Rita to detect cancer, and that no video evidence exists of his prowess on the soccer field or in the bedroom...

...Cremation will take place at the family's convenience, and his ashes will be kept around as long as they match the décor...

Sounds like the world lost a really great guy, huh?

Visitation will begin on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at noon at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Jim requests that you "Don't be late!"

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart of Hospice, 750 Bayou Pines East, Suite A, Lake Charles, LA 70601.
