The November 6, 2018 Midterm General Election is probably the most important election in the current history of America. What's at stake: control of Congress, America's Democracy, 1st Amendment (freedom of speech/press/right to protest,) Women's Rights, Affirmative Action, Re-Opening of our borders, Clean Air/Clean Water Act, LGBT Rights, possible abolishment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE.)

Just about everything is at stake in the upcoming election, and those to follow. If you're concerned about your future and the direction America is headed, NOW is the time to speak up. It's called voting. Not using your American right to vote can have MAJOR CONSEQUENCES. For example, 40% of Registered Voters in America DID NOT VOTE in the 2016 presidential election. It's an absolute fact that non-voters handed Donald Trump the presidency.

If we want to be a successful society, we must learn from our mistakes. If we didn't learn anything else about that election, know this: A non-vote, is still a vote! Your vote counts. Voting makes you a part of the decision, of what happens to you and your family.

The Voter Registration Drive will take place this Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Abraham's Tent (2300 Fruge St.) in Lake Charles. Anyone 18 years of age or older is eligible to register to vote. If you or someone you know is not registered to vote, now is the time to get registered to vote. They will have Absentee/Mail-In Ballots for the following voters:

The disabled, persons over the age of 65, and people not going to be on in town to vote on election day because of work or attending college out of town.

Voting rights restored automatically upon completion of sentence, including prison, parole, and probation in the following states:

Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Virginia now does this by policy of the current governor.

Thanks to the bill by Baton Rouge Democrat , Rep. Patricia Smith - Convicted felons in Louisiana still serving probation and parole, but out of prison for five years, will get their voting rights restored.

The event is brought to you by Mothers In Action (M.I.A) Lake Charles, and the National Association of University Women. For information contact M.I.A. founder, Brittany Manuel at (337) 853-2583.
