After garnering critical acclaim at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in April, the Nas documentary 'Time Is Illmatic' has been picked up by Tribeca Film for U.S. theatrical distribution in the fall.

The film, directed by filmmaker One9 and written by journalist Erik Parker, chronicles the making behind Nas’ classic 1994 album 'Illmatic,' which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The documentary will open in theaters and VOD in October with live performances by Nas in some cities. In addition, an educational youth screening series will complement the release.

"I want to thank Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal & the Tribeca Film family for all of the love & support they've given 'Time Is Illmatic,'" said Nas in a press release. "It is an honor to be in partnership with them. I feel there is a cultural kinship bonded by the city of New York."

This summer, Nas will embark on an 'Illmatic' tour where he will perform the 10-track opus in its entirety, plus other hits. To peep his itinerary, click here.
