It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week and this Saturday, were inviting parents/guardians to come out for great tips on how to keep your kids/grandchildren safe when traveling in a vehicle.  Certified technicians will be on hand to conduct seat inspections making sure the your child's safety seat is properly installed.  

The event will take place at Billy Navarre Honda, located at 1310 E. College Street from noon to 3 p.m.  The child passenger safety checkup events will be held across the state providing parents/guardians with life-saving info like,  the best seat for each child’s age, weight, and height. Do you know when to move your child from a safety seat to a booster seat?  Get all the details this weekend!

By the way this is a free event in conjunction with the safety awareness campaign, parents should anticipate a 30 minute inspection time per seat.  Plus, booster seats will be given away while supplies last.  Please note, your child must be present and one booster per family will be issued out.

As a reminder child safety seats/boosters offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. When properly used and installed they can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for children younger than one and 54% for children between 1 and 4-years old. In contrast, it's estimated that 3 out of 4 safety seats are installed incorectly.

So come out and take advantage of free events such as the National Child Seat Check Saturday to make sure your child's restraints properly installed. Technicians from Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will be conducting the seats installations and providing the safety tips.
