When I was asked to write this article, I realized the need to establish why I have an honorary degree in being an adrenaline junky quickly, so here it goes: I’ve bungee jumped, whitewater rafted, been skydiving, instructed rock climbing, broken my shoulder in the Swiss Alps canyoneering, tried my hand at mixed martial arts, driven a Lamborghini in a time trial… and the list keeps going. Of these peak experiences, one of the most exciting was this very morning: riding in the left wing position of the Aeroshell Acrobatics team with pilot Steve Gustafson.

Steve and the flight team perform acrobatic maneuvers with such precision and intimacy that it seems as though you can reach out and touch the planes next to you, all while flying at insane speeds and pulling Gs that make it almost impossible to lift your arms. It is a true melding of man and machine that requires a mastery of their art.

My expert advice for a good time this weekend? Get out to the Chennault International Airshow and enjoy watching the Aeroshell team and many others ready to perform maneuvers that are superhuman just to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Bonus: be sure to check out the twilight show on Friday that is open to the public this year; it is the “cannot miss” event in our beautiful city this weekend!

Tickets are on sale now at http://chennaultairshow.com/tickets/ or you can purchase at the gate, but whatever you do this weekend, you need to add the airshow to your activity list. I know where I will be!
