The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury invites residents to send their feedback in on a new smoking ordinance that may go into effect next year.  According to the news the new proposal will Parish owned properties smoke-free.  In addition this new smoke-free proposal will include smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes and vapors.

If you would or wouldn't like to see this happen, let them know.  Per their website, Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is encouraging all area residents to send in their feedback via email at administration@cppj.net or by phone at 337-721-3500.  Don't delay because the final consideration on this proposal is expected to take place at the next Police Jury meeting, November 17th.  If it gets approved, the ordinance will go into effect on January 1, 2017.

After that date, it will be prohibited to smoke or use smokeless tobacco and vaping at Police Jury owned facilities, Parish parks, the Health Unit Complex and any other Police Jury owned facilities.  However residents will still be able to smoke in Parish designated smoking areas, as well as designated RV camper and tent camp sites at Parish parks.

FYI this proposal will have no effect on private homes, bars, gaming establishments, restaurants and other businesses. It continues to adopt the Louisiana Smoke Free Air Act as per R.S. 40:1291.1.
