Today in Tha Wire, Nicki Minaj got her coins and performed at the Show Unitel Boas Festas in Luanda, Angola over the weekend.  Though the concert was sold out, not everyone was happy with the rap diva's performance.  According to BET, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) was calling for her to join them in protest against Angola's president Jose Eduardo dos Santos by not performing.

Santos has been in power since 1979 and is accused of rigging elections to fake democratic credentials, covering up a massacre of hundreds of civilians, exploiting his countries natural resources and more.  The group claims in a article titled Nicki Minaj Shouldn’t Be Performing for Dictators, that Angola's president is ruthless and oppressing his people among other things.

But their protest fell on deaf ears as the Young Money femcee took to the stage on Saturday anyway.  Minaj was paid $2 million for her performance by the way.  Despite the HRF’s pleas for her not to perform BET reports, Minaj may have added fuel to the fire when she posted a pic of herself and the president's daughter, Isabel dos Santos, on Instagram with the following caption:

"Oh no big deal.....She's just the 8th richest woman in the world. (At least that's what I was told by someone b4 we took this photo) Lol. Yikes!!!!! GIRL POWER!!!!! This motivates me soooooooooo much!!!!"

S/O to any woman on a paper chase. Get your own!!!! Success is yours for the taking!!!!! #Angola thank u to the women who brought me out here as well.

This infuriated the HRF and the group blasted the rapper in a statement reading:

“Minaj’s payday is all the more jarring given that she and her managers joined the chorus of the Black Lives Matter movement. It appears that when those Black lives happen to be in Angola, their lives matter less than a paycheck from a dictator.”

FYI Nicki Minaj isn’t the first American artists asked not to perform in Angola by the HRF. Kanye West, Erykah Badu and Jennifer Lopez are among the long list of celebs urged not to perform for various dictators in exchange for a phat paycheck.  Speaking of which, the Slate.com reports two years ago, Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to perform in Angola at a Santos sponsored holiday party.

Mimi promised to never perform for dictators again, that is after she performed for Libya’s Qaddafi family.  The public wasn’t happy with her the second time around and let her know it too.  That move also proved to be a global PR scandal, which is said to be the reason the songstress severed ties with her manager, Jermaine Dupri, who arranged the visit.

Talk about drama!  I'm sure there's more to come from the Nick Minaj concert in Angola.  As more details become available, I will keep you posted.  For the best in entertainment news LISTEN LIVE to Tha Wire on The Peoples Station 107 Jamz at 12:50 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. to get the scoop.
