This past June, Rob Base's family member was fatally shot in the Bronx. The cops are now asking for the public to come forward and help identify the killer in the unsolved case.

According to the New York Daily News, Ryan Ginyard, 24, was just days away from graduating from The New York School for Medical and Dental Assistants when he was shot in the stomach in Mount Hope Playground on June 29. Police sources tell the publication that Ginyard stayed alive long enough to describe what happened; however, he died the next day on the operating table at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Ginyard was reportedly about to hand graduation tickets to his friend, Anthony Castillo. Before he could meet up with Castillo, shots rang out near the playground's basketball court, police sources tell NY Daily News. On Sunday (Oct. 10), police released surveillance photos and video of the person of interest.

Rob Base is best known for his smash hit "It Takes Two" with the late DJ E-Z Rock. In an interview with XXL, Rob Base remembers how he first met E-Z Rock, who died in 2014. "We first met in fourth grade," Base says. "We used to sit in the back of the class, clown around. We were the class clowns. It was funny. School was in Harlem—197 135th st. I had moved from the Bronx at that time and I didn’t have any friends around the way. So when I went to school, him and me sat at the back of the class and we just clicked from there.

The suspect is described as black, aged between 25 and 35, about 5-foot-10 and between 180 and 190 pounds. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a gray shirt with the number 72 on it, light blue jeans, a light-colored baseball cap and brown tennis shoes. Anyone with information is being urged to call CrimeStoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
