Here's your opportunity to experience Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream and literally walk in the footsteps of the brave men and women who had the courage to stand-up and fight for our equal right to vote in 1965.  The Selma Voting Rights Movement spawn three protest marches led by Dr. King, to Montgomery and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act.

In defiance of segregation, civil rights activists, clergy, politicians, teachers and ordinary people of every color, creed and religious background walked the 54-miles from Selma to the Alabama state capital of Montgomery.  They marched in show of a united front, to fight  for Africans American citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

To commemorate this historic event, Saturday March 7, 2015 join us for a full day of celebration in Selma, Alabama.  Special guest speaker will be the one and only President Barack Obama.  The White House announced the POTUS would be attending the special event, just days after hosting a special screening of the movie "Selma." President Obama will be joined by Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga, who was among those who marched with Dr. King in the original 1965 march.  This is President Obama's 2nd time commemorating the historic march.  In the 2007 while he was running for office, the senator was joined by former President Clinton, Hilary Clinton and John Lewis in the march to Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Saturday March 7th, is sometimes known as “Bloody Sunday” in reference to the beatings that peaceful protesters endured at the hands of Alabama state troopers and local police. The violence on that day captured worldwide attention and ultimately led to the passing of the Voting Rights Act. President Obama will be joined by Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga, who was among the marchers on that day.

For some of us, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and hear President Barack Obama speak, while he's still in office and re-live history.  If you want to attend, time is of the essence!
