Rapper Nicki Minaj sparked an unnecessary controversy over her Mitt Romney line, "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy b----es is f---ing up the economy," on Lil Wayne's 'Mercy (Freestyle).' President Obama called in to Orlando station Power 95.3 on Monday (Sept. 10) to weigh in on Nicki’s lyrics.

President Obama admitted that his daughters Malia and Sasha don't listen to the Harajuku Barbie often, but he does keep tabs on what they are playing on their music players.

"You know, I don't think they really listen to Nicki Minaj that much. But let's face it, they are now hipper than me," he said. "There's a certain point where your kids get old enough where they're just hipper than you are, and Michelle and I, for folks of 50 -- or as she likes to point out close to 50, because she's not 50 yet -- we try to keep up so we've got a nice hip-hop collection on our iPods."

When asked directly about Minaj's infamous Mitt Romney line, President Obama shrugged it off. "Yeah, I'm not sure what actually happened. I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that," he said. "But she likes to play different characters. So I don't know what's going on there."

Minaj has yet to explain her point behind the lyrics but she did go on Twitter to thank POTUS for understanding her rhyme (and reason). She tweeted:

So maybe Nicki Minaj is not a Republican after all? (*Kanye Shrug*) Either way, don't forget to vote on Election Day, which is Nov. 6.
