Today in Tha Wire, rapper Fetty Wap apologized last Wednesday (June 15, 2016) to the school board, city officials and the community in Paterson, N.J., after a principal was suspended for letting him film a music video at his former school.  According to reports the rap star returned to his old stomping ground, Eastside High School, to shoot the video for his new track, "Wake Up."

Apparently not everybody in the community is a fan of Wap and city officials were outraged that principal, Zatiti Moody, gave the rapper permission to use the school.  In case your wondering I'm talking about THE Eastside High made famous under the leadership of principal Joe Clark in the movie, Lean On Me.  Fetty attended the school until he dropped out.

Up until now Principal Moody, who was hired in 2009, had a good reputation as an educator.  He was widely credited by the Paterson community and the school board alike for cleaning-up the school, which had seen a new wave of drug and violence prior to his arrival.  However, his job came under fire when Fetty's "Wake Up" video premiered on the net.

Paterson Superintendent, Donnie Evans, announced during a meeting of the Board of Education last week, Moody would be on paid administrative leave.  That is until an investigation by district officials looking into whether school policies were followed, when permission was granted for the video to be filmed after school hours inside the school is complete.

Fetty joined hundreds of residents and protestors last week at the board meeting, hoping he could do something to help Moody keep his job.  He told board members, ”If I disrespected anybody, I came today to apologize." NJ.com reports he continued. "But I also wanted to let people know that I'm a product of my environment."

Many is support of the principal wore reading, "Return Principal Moody back to Eastside High School."  Will it be enough?  Fetty said in an additional statement, "Before Moody was there, it was a lot different."  As I stated the district's investigation is ongoing.  I'll keep you posted on any new developments and the fate of Pricipal Moody's job as soon as here something.
