On Saturday, August 23rd, deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a speeding car near Lakeshore Drive on I-10 in Lake Charles. The vehicle matched the description of a car reported stolen.

During the chase the car made several unsafe lane changes, exited on and off the interstate, ran stop signs and red lights, almost causing several collisions before eventually stopping on Ruth St. in Sulphur after police used tire spikes. The pursuit lasted about 20 minutes and there were no injuries or accidents.

The driver, Joshua C. Davis, 19, 2226 Belden Street, Lake Charles, was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle; illegal possession of stolen things; flight from an officer; reckless operation, expired driver’s license and contempt of court. Davis’s bond is set at $135,000. A passenger, Germany D. Bellard, 17, 102 North Cherry Street, Lake Charles, was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things; two contempt of courts; and misrepresentation during booking. Ballard’s bond has not been set. Both were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. — Kim Myers, CPSO

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Louisiana State Police and Sulphur Police Department, to make the stop.
