He’s known as the “R” of R&B and the “Pied Piper of R&B”, but don’t expect to hear R. Kelly sing any R&B on his next album.  Believe it or not Kells has official switched genres of music.   During Chicago’s 24th Annual Chosen Few Picnic Weekend R. Kelly announced he’s going in a different direction for a future LP, saying simply:

“I’m working on a house album right now, and I want y’all to know, it’s coming.  Y’all know I love music, and I feel like I can do anything when it comes to music because I am music. Just like y’all.”

Last year R. Kelly released Black Panties and he’s been working on the sequel, White Panties.  It’s not clear if White Panties will be the house music project or not, but during an interview with V Magazine earlier this year, Kells said of the album, “You can expect a whole other level. I always follow what my spirit tells me to do. When I get into the studio I write from my heart. I try to write life and not songs. People live life and when you write life you’re going to mess around and touch somebody’s heart, and they’ll relate to you and what you’re singing about.”

So that’s what it sounds like to me.  As for a release date, I’ll keep you posted.

In other news, Drake seems to be a man of his word yesterday (July 15th), Drizzy revealed in a press release he’s got a title for his next album and that be……Views From The 6. However, he didn’t reveal when it’s gonna drop.  So while we wait for that, word has it, he’s gonna release new projects for his OVO Sound artists first.  I have more on that inside Tha Wire below.

In the meantime, the Young Money MC is set to host the 2014 ESPY Awards tonight (July 16th) live in L.A.  So be sure to check it out, the ESPY’s air at 8 P.M on ESPN.

Finally, Pharrell Williams has been named curator of the NBA 2K15 video game soundtrack.  A brotha is truly on a well-deserved career high, yet he was shocked that he was even considered for such an honor.  Pharrell spoke on his next venture at a recent press conference in New York City Monday (July 14), saying

"I couldn't believe that my name got tossed in the hat for it.  I'm honored because I know that when, you know, there's so many other people that were probably super, way more like deserving of the opportunity.  So when I got a chance to do it I was like, 'OK cool,' I just wanna try and do something different, though."

As for following in the footsteps of Jay and King James he admitted though he’s a fan, he doesn't know a whole lot about the sport adding, "They know so much more about this sport than I do... I mean, I'm not screaming, 'touchdown!' But after free throw, lay-up, couple dunks, I don't know what a crossover is.  I mean, I know what a crossover is. I might not know how to do it."

Don’t get it twisted though, Pharrell has a plan of action and that’s the ladies!  The talented jack of all trades explained, "There are girls that play the game and there's a lot of girls that are around it because their boyfriends play it or their friends play it. So I thought it'd be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, because they're the ones that listen to it, they listen to it just as much."  When asked what he thought about LeBron leaving Miami he said he was "hurt" by the move. "But I get it… coming home is a big thing for anyone. He went out and proved something."
