All American Muslim-TLC

In case you haven't heard, conservative groups have begun pressuring advertisers to pull their ads from a TLC reality show called All-American Muslim because, well, it dares to show that not all Muslims or for that matter Muslim-Americans are terrorists.

Lowe’s, the national hardware chain, has pulled commercials from future episodes of the show, after protests by so called "Christian" groups.  Which is actually kinda funny, because you can't be both a Christian and a bigot.  Your either one or the other.  Non the less, the Florida Family Association, as their being called, from Tampa Bay  has led a campaign urging companies to pull ads on “All-American Muslim.” So far they claim 65 of 67 companies it has targeted have pulled their ads, including Bank of America, the Campbell Soup Co., Dell, Estee Lauder, General Motors, Goodyear, Green Mountain Coffee, McDonalds, Sears, and Wal-Mart.

However, emails from Home Depot and Sweet’N Low posted on the Florida Family Association’s website suggest the companies had simply bought one commercial spot, and didn’t cancel any commercials.

Lowe’s acknowledged pulling commercials from “All-American Muslim” following consumer complaints, but denied they came from one group.  Company spokeswoman Katie Cody issued this statement “We understand the program raised concerns, complaints, or issues from multiple sides of the viewer spectrum, which we found after doing research of news articles and blogs covering the show.” Cody declined to specify whether the complaints were anti-Muslim, and whether Lowe’s advertises on shows with Christian, Jewish, or other religious characters or themes.  Adding, “It is certainly never Lowe’s intent to alienate anyone,” Cody said.  Hum, I wonder what their intent is then?

So you'll be rightfully informed, All-American Muslim takes a look at life in Dearborn, Michigan which is home to the largest Mosque in the country, through the lens of five Muslim American Families.  Each episode offers an intimate look at the customs, celebrations, misconceptions and conflicts outside and within their own community.

Since all the hoopla, one Muslim-American in particular, is pissed that Lowe's and other companies are punking out to the so call Christian groups protesting the show.  The being the very out spoken Russell Simmons.  Russell blasted Lowe's for pulling it's ads and took to twitter saying " Just purchased remaining spots for {All American Muslim} for next week.  The show is now sold out!  Keep your money Lowe's and we will keep ours."

Simmons later took to twitter to explain that the ads were already sold out.
