This Christmas is going to be extra special for kids in SWLA.  This Wednesday December 7, 2016, Santa's coming to town!  Don't look in the sky.  This time the big guy's giving his reindeers a break and they'll all be riding aboard a special train, bound for the DeQuincy Railroad Museum at 400 Lake Charles Ave.  Join in on a magical holiday celebration with ol' St. Nick himself and all his elves, beginning at 4 p.m.  Below is a video of the magical train on one of it's many stops last year.

This event is free and open to the public and everyone in the surrounding areas is invited to attend.  This is Santa's 16th annual trip riding Kansas City Southern’s (KCS) U.S. Rail spreading joy to those, who otherwise wouldn't have a Christmas.  KCS started this holiday tradition in 2001 to help Salvation Army facilities in communities along their rail network.  This initiative wouldn't be possible without the donations to The KCS Charitable Fund, from employees, vendors, family and friends.  With the monetary donations, the none-profit organization purchased gift cards, so the Salvation Army could buy warm clothes and other necessities for children in need.

Who better to deliver a Christmas donation this big, than Santa and his crew?  One things for sure cargo and famous passengers such as these, deserve some super cool transportation.  So hundreds of volunteers got together and helped the folks at KCS U.S. Rail come up with a plan to transform a few retired rail cars.  After 8,000 hours and a lot of tender, love and care...The KCS Holiday Express Train was born.

Come out and bring the whole family to see this Christmas wonder on rails, featuring six renovated cars.  The magical train is led by a smiling tank car named Rudy and includes a flatcar carrying Santa's sleigh, all his reindeer, elves from the North Pole and their workshop, a miniature Christmas village, a gingerbread boxcar, a reindeer stable and a little red caboose.

Everyone will get an opportunity to enjoy the special train, visit with Santa and best of all...it's FREE. The KCS Holiday Express Train rolls into the DeQuincy Railroad Museum and station, Wednesday December 7, at 4 p.m. and will remain there until every last child has had the chance to see the one and only Kris Kringle.
