The Louisiana State Police Troop D will conduct a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Friday, August 19, from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m., as the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign also begins. The checkpoint will help in the effort to combat impaired driving in Southwest Louisiana.

The mission is to “detect and arrest impaired drivers before they cause injury or death to themselves or others,” said a LSP press release.

Last year, 64 percent of fatal crashes investigated by Troop D involved an impaired driver. Alcohol consumption affects judgement as well as the skills needed to drive safely.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver before driving to any place where alcohol will be consumed. Not doing so can have deadly consequences.
Support for this checkpoint is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Please don’t drink and drive, or use any substance that will impair your ability to drive.
