"Spring Midnight Basketball" returned to the City of Lake Charles back in March, but as just a reminder, it continues May 4, 2018, through May 18, 2018, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Pryce/Miller Community Center (216 Albert Street), and Donald Ray Stevens Community Center (1601 Cessford Street). It's a free program for youth ages 12-17.

Games are played each Friday and feature a guest speaker, "who will share his or her unique personal story", said a media release. Thre will also be other members of the community on hand to speak to attendees about job skills, resume writing, college/trade school applications, and more.

“Spring Midnight Basketball will offer an engaging experience for youth that gives them something to do and also teaches them valuable life skills,” said Mayor Nicholas Hunter. “While we understand that a number of young people are drawn to basketball, we also recognize a large number of them love to ‘game’ as well. To meet this need, we have partnered with Wal-Mart to provide PlayStation 4 (PS-4) video game consoles set up at both sites where Spring Midnight Basketball is offered.”

The program is geared toward physical activity. With that, video gaming is "limited to two hours per event per participant."
