Just because the summer is coming to an end doesn't mean the Louisiana State Police will be easing up when it comes to impaired driving. As of Friday, August 17, through the Labor Day holiday, Monday, September 3, troopers across the state will be on the lookout for anyone driving impaired, said an LSP media release.

As part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, you can expect an increase in the presence of troopers as well as local law enforcement who will also be out to catch impaired drivers and remove them from our highways and roadways. They will be specifically "targetting speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and unrestrained occupants".

Troopers have been aggressively enforcing DWI laws all summer, and they will continue to arrest any motorists found to be operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Driver impairment continues to be a leading factor in fatal crashes across the state. Therefore, Troopers and law enforcement officers statewide will have a “zero tolerance” for those who choose to drive impaired.

Always plan ahead and select a designated driver, or call a cab or Lyft. Don't get into the driver seat of a vehicle if you're under the influence of a substance of any kind. Also, make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up.

Motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) if they observe "other motorists operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner - especially those who appear to be operating under the influence". Also, motorists can dial 511 for information about road conditions, construction activities, or critical incidents, or visit www.511la.org.
