Bet.com reports rapper Big Sean is suppose to headline the Lawnparties Spring concert series 2015, May 3 at Princeton University next month.  However, not everyone is excited about him coming. As a matter of fact, a few hundred students are protesting his forthcoming performance at the university.  According to the schools paper, The Daily Princetonian, a petition was launched last weekend aimed at stopping the rappers show.

Princeton students junior Duncan Hosie and senior Rebecca Basaldua, spearheaded the petition because they feel Sean's lyrics are both misogynistic and homophobic.  On that same note Basaldua told the the school paper,  “I’m sure every singer has a questionable song, but there are a significant amount of his songs that deal with this.  I think there are a lot of other artists, in the same genre even, that would have been a better choice.”

Believe it or not some 500 people have signed the petition according to BET.com.   The goal is to get the Princeton’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG) to “stop promoting rape culture and misogyny by rescinding the offer” to Big Sean. The petition also states, “In the future, USG should strive to bring non-misogynistic acts to campus.”

In response to the petition, Simon Wu, who chairs the USG social committee and books artists to perform at the university, says the protest is going to have little, to no effect on stopping Big Sean from headlining the event.  According to BET.com, Wu said he, the committee dean and several students will meet top discuss the protest, but at the same time said once an act is confirmed, it’s a done deal.  He added, “The contracts are signed and it’s unrealistic to stop this from happening.”
