Get connected and keep your family and neighborhood safe.  If you haven't heard a new smartphone app called, SWLA Connected is now available to all Southwest Louisiana residents.  This app is absolutely free and allows area citizens to form Neighborhood Watch Groups using social media!

SWLA Connected is a free, smartphone app created to help make Southwest Louisiana neighborhoods safer.  Designed with local residents in mind,  SWLA Connected provides a way for you to connect with people on your street, block or entire neighborhood. Whether you see a fishy character on your street or your dog got loose, you can pass messages, updates, ask questions or issue warnings through this app to your neighbors.

For more details check-out the video below, as I speak to KPLC's Olivia Vidal, she'll explain how it works.

One of the primary reasons for the app, is to prevent and report crimes within your community.  Users can create private neighborhoods, so they only people seeing your messages are who you allow into the group.  So it gives area citizens a high tech edge to their neighborhood watch groups and the over-all safety of your area.

To sign-up, simply go to www.swlaconnected.com and register for an account.  Because this app is solely for SWLA residents, you are going to be asked to provide proof of your residence.  After that, the app is ready to be downloaded on a Apple and Android device. That's it!
