Veterans Day is Monday November 11th.  In observance of this special day, all public schools in Calcasieu parish will be closed, however all private/Catholic schools will remain open.

107 Jamz would like to honor ALL American veterans for their dedication and loyal service to their country.  As we celebrate Veterans Day each year we want veterans everywhere to know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country free. THANK YOU!

There are several Veterans Day events being held in Southwest Louisiana.  As listed on KPLCTV, the following ceremonies and events will take place in honor of Veterans Day:

Lake Charles:

Veterans Day program: Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. at College Oaks Elementary School at 3618 Ernest St. in Lake Charles. For more information, call 337-217-4560.

Veterans Day program: Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at S.J. Welsh Middle School at 1500 W. McNeese St. in Lake Charles. Guest Speaker will be Cpt. John Robichaux, Senior MEDEVAC observer, coach and trainer for the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk. Robichaux is a Lake Charles native. The Colt choir, band and show choir will perform. Fournet memorial dedication: Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Veterans Memorial Parkway. The City of Lake Charles and the Mayor's Committee for the First Lt. Douglas B. Fournet Memorial will hold a dedication ceremony for the First Lt. Douglas B. Fournet Memorial. A reception will follow in the Contraband Room of the Lake Charles Civic Center. Fournet, a Lake Charles native, was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously in April 1970, for his selfless act of sacrifice in May of 1968 during the Vietnam War.

Veterans Day program: Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Combre-Fondel Elementary at 2115 Fitzenreiter Road in Lake Charles. There will be an "Avenue of Flags," a Pre-K "Parade of Stars," a historical overview of all military branches and the presentation of colors.

Sulphur:

2nd Annual Veterans Day Parade: Nov. 9 at 10 a.m., with lineup beginning at 8:30 a.m. This year's parade marshals will be World War II veterans. The Fort Polk 162nd Infantry Brigade will be participating. The City of Sulphur and Sulphur's Armed Forces Committee are hosting the event. For more information, call 337-527-4500.

Benefit for children of deployed soldiers: Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 at the VFW Post 8107 at 1235 E. Napoleon Street in Sulphur. There will be food, music, cake walk, gumbo cookoff, auctions, petting zoo, games, car show and more. Crowley:

Veterans Day program: Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Boys Gym at Crowley High School. Veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Kinder:

Kinder Elementary program: Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the school gymnasium in Kinder. There will be a reception to honor veterans immediately following the program. The reception will be in the KES library.

Lafayette:

National Remembrance Day Roll Call: Nov. 11 at 12:45 p.m. between Lafayette Hall and Vermilion Hall on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. There will be a brief presentation, followed by a moment of silence and a reading of the names of wounded and fallen service members.

Longville:

Veterans Day breakfast: Nov. 8 at 9:15 a.m. The South Beauregard High School JRTC will host a Veterans Day breakfast at the school's cafeteria. Veterans are welcome.
