Take The #SuperParkSelfie Challenge And Enjoy Movies Under The Stars This July
This July, the Calcasieu Parish Parks and Recreation Department will have a lot to celebrate. For starters July is National Parks And Recreation Month, an extra season of Movies Under the Stars will get underway and finally residents can participate in the first ever NRPA’s Super Park Selfie Challenge. So July is gonna be a BIG month!
To celebrate Calcasieu Parish Parks and Recreation Department wants you to discover your super powers, by heading to 1 of the 11 parks in the area to workout, walk or play and participate in the 1st Annual Super Park Selfie Challenge. July 4 thru 31 Calcasieu residents are also encouraged to take part in weekly challenges and show how parks and rec super power your life.
The contest can be entered via Facebook, uploading a photo to Twitter and Instagram sharing your photos and love of parks, using #SuperJuly or #SuperParkSelfie. For more info and official rules go to www.nrpa.org/July-Challenge. Every week a $500 Amazon gift card will be given away starting on July 11.

July 4-10: Selfie with nature!
July 11-17: Selfie doing something healthy!
July 18-24: Selfie with your friends and community!
July 25-31: Selfie showing your superhero side!
Plus get your lawn chairs, wagons and blankets as an extra season of Movies Under the Stars rolls out a batch of new family movies for everyone to enjoy at Prien Lake Park. The first movie, "Minions," will be shown on July 1, 2016. As always this is a FREE event and you are encourage to get there early to claim the perfect spot. You may also bring all of your favorite snacks or purchase popcorn, candy and various refreshments at the park.
The following movies will play every Friday at Prien Lake Park July 1 through July 22:
The movies start at sundown at 7:30/ 8 p.m. In the event of inclement weather the movie of the week will be cancelled.
