Today (Jan. 8), singer/producer The Dream announced via his Instagram & Twitter accounts that he has officially left Def Jam Records.

The Dream has penned hit songs for Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, and many more. Now it looks as if the R&B crooner is going independent and taking complete control of his creativity by ditching the major labels.

Not only was The Dream an artist at Def Jam, in 2009 he was named Executive Vice President of Def Jam Records.
