The Grand Total Is! [VIDEO]
Keep Calcasieu Beautiful took part in a local effort to achieve the largest shoe recycling initiative in history. Organizations throughout the parish including 107 JAMZ came together and urged Calcasieu residents to donate used shoes for Soles4Souls. You heard our plea and came through as always donating thousands of shoes so that they can be distributed to those who need shoes all over the world.
Officials say most of the world’s people do not have one adequate pair of shoes, while an estimated 1.5 billion pairs of shoes are hidden away in American closets. Soles4Souls is looking to make a difference in the lives of more than 300 million people throughout the world with this shoes drive.
I must say it was an absolute honor to be a part of such a wonderful event. I thought it would be nice give you a update on how everything worked out. Keep Calcasieu Beautiful’s recent participation in the Soles4Souls/Keep Louisiana Beautiful shoe collection drive produced the unimaginable. The state-wide goal was 20,000 pairs of shoes. CALCASIEU PARISH COLLECTED A GRAND TOTAL OF 15,201 PAIRS OF SHOES ALONE!!!! Job well done! From what I’ve been told their was only one other community that close and that was the Mandeville area with 7,000 pairs.
Keep Calcasieu Beautiful is an organization of the Calcasieu Police Jury and Keep America Beautiful. The effort not only put shoes on those who really needed them, but will also help keep old shoes from winding up in landfills. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!
