Today in Tha Wire the world has be fixated on Hurricane Harvey, and the epic destruction it's left in it's path over the past few days. No one was prepared for the record rainfall the storm has produced. The historic rain has had a major effect on portions of Louisiana, and brought South East/East Texas to it's knees. The catastrophic flooding put Houston, 4th largest city in the nation, under water. Even worse, with the rain gone, the water continues to rise due to cresting rivers, creeks and streams.

Harvey caused unbelievable record flooding in smaller Texas cities from Port Arthur, Bay City, Baytown, Beaumont, Jasper, Starks and more. The devastation in the wake of this storm is extensive, and will linger for years to come. In spite of the widespread tragedy going on everywhere around us, it's nice to see people coming together. From everyday people, the national guard, state and local emergency responders, to Louisiana volunteers like the Louisiana Cajun Navy. The fact is disasters bring the country closer.

Hollywood celebrities and superstar athletes alike, are also stepping up to the plate and donating money to help Texas families displaced by Hurricane Harvey. The world's biggest stars like Sandra Bullock gave $1 million. Kevin Hart issued the Hurricane Harvey Challenge, and stars are lining up. Hart and Chris Brown gave donations of $100,000, while the ATL's T.I. was the first to answer the call followed by, The Rock, DJ KhaledNicki Minaj and others who gave $25, 000. The Kardashian family pledged a whopping $500,000 to go towards relief efforts.

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, answered the call for Harvey relief and posted a link to YouCaring.com for donations to help. So far J.J. raised more than $4 million.

Of course Houston born R&B diva, Beyonce, is giving back to her beloved city as well. The released a statement to the Houston Chronicle Monday( August 28, 2017) afternoon, saying, "My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help." Bey continued, "I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor to implement a plan to help as many as we can."

Bey has always given back to her city, and probably a lot more than people realize. A Houston pastor took to Twitter to talk about the Beyonce and the difference her BeyGOOD Foundation has made in her hometown.

Bey didn't get specific on what she's going to do in helping get her hometown back on their feet, but I am sure it will be significant. Stay strong Texas, our prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey. For more of Tha Wire, get the daily scoop on the People's Station 107 Jamz.
