This Moment In Black History- Remembering DJ Screw [NSFW , VIDEO]

As we come to our last couple of days for Black History Month, I like to remember contributers from all aspect of the meaning. Being from Meridian, Mississippi I knew a little about Screw music , but not until I was getting ready to move. Of course the name I heard the most of was the creator of Screw. That would be Robert Earl Davis Jr. A.K.A DJ Screw, check out some footage from him below!

DJ Screw Untold Story Movie:

Point Blank- “My Mind Went Blank”:

DJ Screw is the originator of the chopped and screwed sound. This was when he would slow the songs down tremedously and mix the songs slightly off , where they would repeat certain words in the songs. He was the driving force behind the S.U.C , known as the Screwed Up Click. This consisted of many greats like the late Big MoeBig HawkLil Keke and so many more. DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Mixtapes became such a big thing that folks would drive from all over to purchase their own exclusive tapes. It became such a big business that he was eventually able to open his own store and sell to the masses. Unfortunately he was not able to see the world wide phenomenon that he started because he died from an apparent Codiene overdose November 16th, 2000. While this was hard for all to accept, thanks to the fans and S.U.C members, the name DJ Screw has been able to maintain with the help of artist like T-PainMike JonesSlim Thug and so many more. DJ Screw definately holds a place in Black History for being a pioneer in creating Screw music.
