Torii Wolf Releases ‘1st:’ Produced By DJ Premier [VIDEO]

DJ Premier’s new artist Torii Wolf is mesmerizing in "1st," an edgy love ballad. On her new track, Wolf emerges with a grand piano opening. The smooth ballad brings you into the song, followed by a bassline, kicks and a record-scratching effect that is classic Preemo.

Premier has always been a conduit and musical mentor to artists of all genres. He's known for bestowing his legendary production skills to artists such as D’Angelo, Macy Gray, Janet Jackson, Maroon 5, Miguel, Neneh Cherry, Lion Babe, Yuna, Anderson .Paak and Christina Aguilera (for which he won a Grammy) amongst many others. With a unique sound and unconventional image, it looks like Wolf is off to a strong start with her track ‘1^st’.

The native New Yorker has trekked the east and west coast in an effort to nail down her sound and enhance herself artistically. Word is, she’s the first female artist to have her entire project, (forthcoming album Flow Riiot) produced by Preem. On the aptly titled track she sings softly yet urgently, “You fell in love with me first/ you fell in love/ so why are you running away/ why are you running away/ darlin’/ tell me what would it take/ what does it take to keep you from running away.” The earnest, yet smooth-flowing lyrics and boom-bat kick is worth a listen.
