As previously announced last year, the Tupac Shakur-inspired musical, ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me,’ will be making its debut on Broadway this summer.

Opening night for the $8 million production is slated to take place on June 19 at the Palace Theater in New York.  However Rolling Stone Magazine reports they’ll be some preview showings, and they’re scheduled to go down on May 26.

So you'll know, the musical is about two childhood friends from the Midwest who rise above their poverty to chase their dreams.  Best of all the production has the blessing of Pac's mother Afeni Shakur, who also serves as one the producers along with theater producer Shin Chun-soo.  The musical was written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon.

Finally, in case you haven’t heard Jennifer Hudson was honored at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (Jan. 8), and her reaction to receiving an award was touching.  Here's a look at Jennifer talking about her foundation with Queen Latifah.

A vision in white, J-Hud was moved to tears as a video played to showcase her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation.  In honor of her late nephew Julian King, she started the organization with his mother and her sister, Julia Hudson.

To accept her award, Hudson brought her sister on stage and repeated something she said when she won the Academy Award for her role in ‘Dreamgirls’ in 2007:

“I want to start by saying what I said when I won an Oscar. Look what God can do.”  She continued, “That’s what we want to instill in our children, if we can do it, you can do it, too,” the singer continued. “It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have so much of what we have, but it’s nothing compared to making a difference… Where we come from and who shot who, but we want to show that’s it’s starting at home. It’s starting in Chicago.”

The mission of the Julian D. King Gift Foundation is to find ways to provide a stable and positive environment for kids so that they can grow to become confident and happy adults.  For even more details on this and all of the above, listen to Tha Wire now.
