The City of Lake Charles and The Friends of Tuten Park present "Get To Know Snakes," a program geared to introduce and educate children ages 10-14 about snakes.   The event will take place May 30, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Tuten Park, located at 3801 Nelson Road and parents are encouraged to attend with their children.

During the program participants will learn why some people fear snakes, myths about venomous snakes, and the differences between a venomous and non-venomous snake.  There will also be at least one live snake present, for students to see and touch.  Please note that space is limited to 25 participants.  To reserve your seat email Irvin Louque, at irvin.louque@cityoflc.us or calling (337)491-8770.
Here in SWLA, we have several different snake species, however only five are venomous.  Those snakes are the copperhead, coral, cottonmouth, timber rattlesnake, and pygmy rattlesnake. Some of the most common species of snakes eat insects and slugs in our gardens or minnows and tadpoles along streams and pose no threat to people.

Tuten Park was donated to the City of Lake Charles to provide the public with a place to enjoy nature in the city. So come out and do just that.  Celebrate nature and "Get To Know Snakes," from 10 to 11 a.m. May 30.
