UPDATE:  Police captured shooter Dylann Storm Roof after a night-long manhunt across South Carolina. Roof was captured almost 250 miles away from the crime scene in Charleston, S.C., in the town of Shelby, N.C.

USA Today reports that Roof allegedly sat in the church's prayer service for an hour before standing up and opening fire.

The killer walked into the church Wednesday evening and sat with the Bible group for about an hour before pulling out a weapon and firing, reportedly reloading several times.

A federal law enforcement official said Thursday that the shooter was believed to be armed with a handgun and allegedly shouted racial epithets at the time of the attack. The information came from interviews with survivors, said the official who is not authorized to comment publicly. -- USA TODAY


ORIGINAL POST:  It's frightening to think we aren't even safe in church, but it appears the case.  A gunman walked into the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina yesterday (June 17) murder 9 people, including pastor and South Carolina State Senator Clementa Pinckney Pinckney was 41.

Authorities were looking for a young white male, with short blonde hair, approximately 21. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a grey hoodie and walked into the historic African American church in downtown Charleston around 9 p.m. and opened fire.
