It comes as no surprise that JAY-Z, one of the greatest rappers and businessmen in the history of hip-hop and pop culture at large, is once again reinventing a game he helped create.

While including accompanying visuals to a new release is a quintessential part of the roll-out process, Hov is taking it one step further with his latest album, 4:44, by way of including footnotes for each official music video.

However, because this is JAY-Z we're talking about, the footnotes are much more than solely fun facts about the track or a behind-the-scenes run-through of the creative process. Instead, the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame takes things to another level, curating a star-studded array of speakers to discuss a wide array of complex societal issues, such as racism, relationships, emotional vulnerability, masculinity and more.

The Footnotes series has featured a slew of guest appearances since its debut earlier this summer, including the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Chris Rock, Chris Paul, Will Smith, Michael Che, Trevor Noah, Michael B. Jordan, Mahershala Ali, Van Jones, Jesse Williams, Anthony Anderson and Aziz Ansari.

As each celebrity lends their individual perspectives on various topics, JAY-Z ties each introspective comment back into his music, brilliantly weaving in some insight behind his lyrical masterminding, much like he did in his infamous book, 2010's Decoded.

Needless to say, the official Footnotes series is a must-watch. Take a look at the powerful and impactful videos JAY-Z has dropped thus far, below via TIDAL.
