What’s It Like to Win a Grammy? — Zydeco Storytellers, Episode 3 [VIDEO]
For Chubby Carrier, winning a Grammy Award was the culmination of a life-long dream — not only for himself, but for the generations of musicians that preceded him. But it was bittersweet, because his Grammy win also came the same year his parents passed away.
Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band were the last group to win a Grammy specifically in the Cajun and Zydeco category of the Grammys. The category was added in 2008 and eliminated in 2011, meaning there were only four such awards ever given. Terrence Simien, one of the artists primarily responsible for getting the category added in the first place, was the first winner in 2008. Beausoleil won in 2009 and Buckwheat Zydeco won in 2010. Cajun and Zydeco artists are now lumped into the “Regional Roots” category in the Grammys.
Here’s part three of Chubby Carrier’s “Zydeco Storytellers.”
This series is taken from a live concert at 107 JAMZ’s studios on Dec. 7, 2012. Joining Chubby are percussionist Earl Sally and guitarist Randy Ellis of the Bayou Swamp Band.
