Early Wednesday morning (Sept. 21), news broke about the death of Shawty Lo after his car crashed on an Atlanta highway. Hip-hop quickly broke out in mourning for the Bankhead rapper, and now his group D4L has spoken out in a video you can watch above.

"Just want to send special condolences out to his mom," says Lo's manager Johnny Cabell in the video. "His mom was everything to him. It's just hard for everyone. I got the call early this morning, around 4 this morning. It's still unbelievable. Feels like I'm in a dream."

Then Fabo speaks up, saying, "We want to put a real face on the person. He wasn't just a rapper....family man, father, friend, uncle, cousin. For the whole Bankhead, he was always there, for people who couldn't pay their rent, people who couldn't do for themselves, he was always the one to come through, always the one to call."

Cabell also assures Lo's legacy will stay alive and says the rapper had a new mixtape called Rico on the way. "We definitely gonna have a memorial service for him and do something big. Everybody in the city been reaching out to me, all the artists that supported Lo and was there for him. It just feels good to know he was respected and he was loved and everybody's showing a lot of support right now. We appreciate that."

Shawty Lo died when his car crashed off an exit ramp on I-285. Two other women who were in the car were injured and brought to the hospital, but Lo was ejected from the car and died on the scene.

Rappers young and old, from Lil Yachty to Gucci Mane, have paid their respects to the "Dey Know" rapper on social media. See their reactions below.
