According to CNN, St. Lewis rap icon, Nelly, born Cornell Haynes Jr., was taken into custody over the weekend. Des Moines PD transported the star to a nearby police station in Auburn, Washington for questioning in regard to rape allegations. Apparently, police were acting on a 911 call from a female who claimed Nelly raped her. CNN reports authorities got the emergency call around 3 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017. Dispatch reported a woman called in and claimed the star had assaulted and raped her on his tour bus late Friday night.

Hours before the allegations were made, the 42-year-old rapper headlined a concert at the White River Amphitheater, located in the King County. Authorities informed Nelly that he was the main suspect in a second-degree rape investigation, and he was needed for questioning at the precinct. The star's attorney, Scott Rosenblum, told the press his client was only booked for an investigation, that no charges were made, and Nelly was released a short time after complying with authorities working the case.

Rosenblum issued a statement in response to the rape allegations saying, the "allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness." He added, "I am confident, once this scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges." He also sent a message to the woman who made the claim saying, "Nelly is prepared to address and pursue all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation."

Twitter to speak for himself, telling his followers, "I am beyond shocked that I have been targeted with this false allegation." The star said he's "completely innocent" and certain he'll be vindicated. Nelly stated, "I am confident that once the facts are looked at, it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation."

I gotta say, I believe him. Nelly doesn't have a history of violent behavior. After 20 years in the rap game, he's never been accused of assaulting or sexually abusing anyone. As for legal issues, he's had two over the past 3 years. In 2016, he plead guilty to misdemeanor possession of marijuana after his tour bus was stopped and searched in 2015. However, that charge will be wiped off his record in 10 months because he participated in a Diversion Program. The only other incident was a tax lien from the IRS in 2016, which he said has been cleared up already.

The Grammy award-winning superstar was supposed to perform Saturday night in Ridgefield, Washington, but canceled his performance due to the accusations against him. His lawyer indicated Nelly's schedule is back on track, and he will be in Jacksonville, Florida to turn up Thursday, October 12. Of course, he'll continue to cooperate with the authorities. On that, I will keep you posted with any new details.
