The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) will participate in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign beginning today, Monday, May 21, thru Sunday, June 3, as they continue their efforts to "save lives through awareness of increased seatbelt use", said a media release.

“According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half (48%) of the passengers killed in crashes in 2016 were unrestrained. At night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., that number soared to 56 percent of those killed. Those facts highlight the need for increased enforcement and awareness of seat belt use.” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

The latest “Click It or Ticket” begins right before one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, Memorial Day weekend. Expect an increase in officer presence on the roads of Calcasieu Parish and checkpoints to catch any vehicle occupant who isn't wearing a seatbelt.

Buckle up Southwest Louisiana!
