Louisianians are going through it right now. Like the rest of low income and middle class workers around the globe, the stress of being out of work has reached its breaking point. For the overall health of American citizens, the entire country has shutdown in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The problem is, folks can't pay bills, provide for their families, or purchase the bare essentials if they can't work.

Mind you, for some, the time off is a chance to take a much needed break. However, the majority of the population can't afford to take off even under regular circumstances. It's unthinkable for people with families and no vacation time or sick leave to fall back on.

Here's some good news, though. WAFB 9 in Baton Rouge reports the Louisiana Workforce Commission made an announced this week that can possibly help people stay afloat during these difficult times. If you are out of work because of the coronavirus shutdown and are on unpaid leave, you might be eligible for partial unemployment insurance benefits.

To see if you are eligible, file a claim now at louisianaworks.net/hire or by phone at 866-783-5567.
