New Orleans Restaurant Named Best Hole-in-the-Wall in Louisiana

🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Here in Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas we have lots of small "Mom and Pop" owned Restaurants. Often referred to as a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants. We adore these types of restaurants because they often have better food and service and less glitter.

Similar to how we love our comfort foods like mac and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, mashed potatoes, and chicken pot pie, we also adore comfort dining establishments. That's probably why diners are so well-liked. In a cozy atmosphere, they provide "comfort cuisine". These kinds of settings are precisely what were featured in a recent list of American restaurants.

In a recent piece for Mashed, Sarah Ramsey reviewed these cozy eateries and offered her recommendation for the United States. "Although they might not be able to compete for a Michelin star, there are plenty of hidden gems in the shape of delicious food at numerous little eateries around the nation. Some of these restaurants are small and out of the way, and they don't look like much from the outside, so you might have to search hard to discover them. Some of these treasures are legitimate dives, yet inside you'll find mouthwatering foods.

The Bayou State has always been know for if delicious food and making the list for the #1 in Louisiana is Heard Dat Kitchen in New Orleans. Owner and chef Jeff Heard's exceptional soul food earned Heard Dat Kitchen positions on several "best of" lists. Reviewers praise the food, especially the fried chicken and the Seafood Extravaganza, despite the restaurant's small size and the fact that most of the seats are outside.

What is the Best "Hole in the Wall" Restaurant in Texas?

The Lone Star State right next to us is know for delicious BBQ but surprisingly thats not what made the top of the list. Thai Market Street Food in Houston is the Champion this time. According to a Tripadvisor review from a patron of this Houston restaurant, Thai Market Street Food is the "best Thai food I have had outside Thailand." Along with traditional Thai dishes like tom yum noodle soup and massaman curry, this restaurant serves real Laotian cuisine.
