The first federal holiday of 2025 is coming up this Monday which means closures of local, state, and federal agencies plus the banks will be closed as well. The reason is, that Monday will be Martin Luther King, Jr. day and all these entities will be closed to observe the holiday.

We reported to you last week that residents in the city Of Lake Charles will have different trash pickup schedules due to the city shutting down for the holiday. The trash schedule for Lake Charles residents goes like this:

  • Trash and garbage normally picked up on Monday will be rescheduled for pickup on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
  • Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesday will be rescheduled for pickup on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
  • Thursday and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedules.-- City of Lake Charles Katie Harrington

Now what if you live in the Parish of Calcasieu and your trash is picked up by Waste Management? Laura Heller with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury gave us the update.

She said,

Garbage and trash pickup will run as regularly scheduled on Monday, Jan. 20, for Waste Management customers. Call Waste Management at 337-436-7229 with any questions concerning the pickup schedule or visit wm.com/alerts for updates.

The Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers - at 2915 Post Oak Road in Sulphur and 5500-B Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles - will also be closed. They will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 23.

So make plans accordingly if you live in Lake Charles or Calcasieu Parish for the upcoming holiday.
