The holidays are almost here and that means folks will flood the roadways visiting with friends and family. Folks will be going to celebrate Christmas with dinner and presents and maybe even a few adult beverages.

The one week of the year when the traffic is the heaviest is between Christmas and the New Year's holiday. New Year's Eve is always the time when people like to go out place, head over to friends' houses for a New Year's Eve party, and to have some drinks.

That's why you should always have a plan in place. Make sure you have a designated driver or are set up to stay wherever you're going or even use a ride-share service to get home safely.

Alexis Pousson with the CPSO said,

The campaign, which starts Friday, December 16, and ends Sunday, January 1, ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,’ is a partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to curb impaired driving and save lives.

During this campaign, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a DWI checkpoint along with having increased deputies on the road, aimed at targeting people who are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.  The checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location in the parish on Friday, December 30.

So have your plan in place and stay safe on the roads. Happy Holidays everyone!
